Solar panel installation at Chartwell Church

Nothing beats the joy of when a plan becomes reality. Especially when those plans have been a long time in the making!

On August 24th and 25th the team from Lightforce came to Chartwell Cooperating Church to install 20 solar panels. Jack Brinkman was on hand to coordinate the installation.

This project started a long time ago and has been passionately supported by Warwick Silvester, Jack Brinkman, Erica Harris and the late Jock Crawford.

The funding of this project has been entirely done by specific bequests and a grant from the Methodist Church of New Zealand as part of their 10-year plan on Environmental Initiatives. Thanks to those who initiated and drove this project, this vision, the Chartwell Cooperating Church community will now benefit from reduced power bills and also a reduction of their carbon footprint.

In fact, these 20 panels should cover our power costs in summer and greatly reduce them over winter. There is space for another 20 panels so after we have assessed how these panels are working there is scope for further expansion.

TVNZ’s 1News put together a piece for the news on the Eco Church movement that Chartwell Cooperating Church are a part of. They were there to see the installation and to interview our Eco Church Coordinator Anna Casey-Cox about our initiatives.
