All Saints Eco Group: Hitting the Ground Running!

Story contributed by Hillary Willett, All Saints Howick.

Members of the All Saints Eco Group

The Eco Group of All Saints, Howick, has been working hard to encourage more sustainable living in the community. Beginning in August of 2023, we’ve had conversations around the parish to get a sense of what was needed.

Our first initiative came out of a walk-around of the church grounds to observe any areas of need. We noted that pests around our compost bins were a problem and contacted “Pest Free Howick” to set up humane rat traps to protect our native wildlife.

Our second initiative was to talk with the church about our waste management processes. We discovered that many of our processes already minimise waste, which we took as a sign that All Saints really cares about the environment!

Our third project involved noting any local places that recycled household goods. This turned into a “Recycling Hubs” booklet, which you can download here

But the All Saints Eco Group is far from finished. We are hoping to take on many other projects in the future. Watch this space!
