ADJust - Green Up and Give Challenge

Stories reproduced with permission from ADJust - Diocese of Auckland Young Anglicans for Social Justice.

In November 2019, ADJust - Diocese of Auckland Young Anglicans for Social Justice, put out to churches in the Auckland Anglican Diocese a "Green Up and Give Challenge". The idea of the challenge was for churches to explore starting a community garden, starting a compost, or starting a Pātaka Kai over the season of advent. ADJust went and visited various churches active in these green initiatives and shared their stories on Facebook. Below are a few stories from the Green Up and Give Challenge.

Check out the video of Rev'd Canon Brent Swann of St Columba, Grey Lynn and community garden coordinator, Bronwyn Davey showing Cathy Bi-Riley and Jessica Hughes of ADJust around part of their organic community garden, Te Māra.

Holy Trinity Otahuhu has set up an awesome community garden and fruit tree space behind their hall! As part of recent renovations to the hall, the parish decided to include planter boxes in the landscaping plan. Instead of planting ornamental trees, they decided to plant several fruit trees.

Malo (Maloaufaatasi Tuilaepa) has transformed the backyard of Selwyn Anglican Church in Mangere East from a seldom used lawn space into a food garden and a green space to connect with God's creation.

Rev'd Dion Blundell and Louise Allnutt shared with Cathy Bi-Riley how they started their pātaka kai or food pantry known as 'Sharing Shed' and how it has served the community over the past year.
